It shows you how much network resources a computer and its programs are using, and offers guidance on how to improve network performance to increase speed, response time, and avoid common network issues.

    What does Speed Meter Pro do?
    Speed Meter Pro monitors your network's performance, helping you keep your network running smoothly and efficiently. It has the following helpful features:

    • Network Map — shows the devices currently connected to your local network. For PCs running Speed Meter Pro, you can quickly see how much network bandwidth they're using and which programs are using the most.
    • Performance Alerts — Speed Meter Pro continually scans your entire network, checking connectivity, network usage, wireless performance, and much more. If Speed Meter Pro finds something that needs your attention, it displays an alert with easy-to-understand information about what you can do to fix the issue. This helps keep your local network running smoothly and at top performance.
    • Network Scan — offers an on-demand scan of your network and a full summary of the results. Links to detailed information are included so you can learn more about specific network scan results.
    • Internet Speed Test — performs an hourly test of the upload and download speed for your Internet connection and informs you if they are within the appropriate range based on your connection type. This is a great way to see if you're getting the speeds promised by your Internet service provider.
    • Local Network Speed Test — tests your local network speed between two PCs on your network. This allows you to see how changes to your network can affect its performance. For example, if you're experiencing slow network speeds between a wireless laptop and another computer, you can move your laptop to a different location in your home or office and test again to see if that improves its network connectivity speed to other devices.
    • Website Watch List — monitors the performance of your favorite websites. You can enter up to four website addresses and instantly see if the website is currently responding normally, is slow, or is unavailable. If you are visiting a website that is performing slowly you can determine if the performance issue is due to your network or the website's server. You can also use the Website Watch List to determine if the Internet is experiencing overall slowness by looking at the performance of all the websites in your list. If they are all indicating a slow response and your connection to the Internet is working properly, it's a safe assumption that there is overall slowing on the Internet.
    • Network Performance History — provides a 30-day history of network performance results. This includes upload and download speeds (both hourly and for an entire day), alerts that have occurred, and an overall network performance status based on the data collected in the 30 day period.
    Does Speed Meter Pro work with PCs and Macs?
    Speed Meter Pro supports only PCs at this time. Speed Meter Pro will identify and show any Macs connected to your network, but it will not gather network usage data for them.

    Does Speed Meter Pro work with Network Magic?
    Yes. Speed Meter Pro, like Network Magic, uses the Pure Networks Platform technology, so the two programs work together. In fact, Speed Meter Pro will monitor PCs running Network Magic even if Speed Meter Pro isn't installed on them. Speed Meter Pro is not supported on Macs however. It will identify the Mac as being on your network, but will not gather network usage data for the Mac.

    For the best network performance monitoring, install Speed Meter Pro on all of your PCs, even if they are already running Network Magic.
    Should I install Speed Meter Pro on all of my computers?
    To get the full benefit of Speed Meter Pro, it's best to install it on every PC on your network. This ensures you get the most complete data for your local network. You can then perform a local network test between any two computers on your network and monitor all PC bandwidth usage.
    What is the Pure Networks Platform?
    Speed Meter Pro is built upon the Pure Networks Platform technology. This technology is also used in our award-winning Network Magic application. The Platform technology provides the basis for discovering and gathering network data. It also allows Speed Meter Pro to "talk" to Network Magic and work together with it.
    On how many computers can I install Speed Meter Pro?
    You can install Speed Meter Pro on up to 8 PCs on your network.

    What is the Pure Networks Support Services feature?
    The Support Services feature is an opt-in feature that provides information about your network to Pure Networks Support personnel. When you call Pure Networks Support, they can instantly see information about the types of devices on your network, including the names and types of computers (PCs or Macs), operating systems, firmware versions, connectivity information and so on. This information is used only by a support representative and only when helping you with a problem. It is only accessible when you until you contact a support representative and give them your unique Support Code.

    To use this support feature, in Speed Meter Pro, click the Help menu and then click Technical Support.

    The Information for Technical Support area displays the following:

    • The version numbers of the Speed Meter Pro application and Pure Networks Platform that are installed on your computer.
    • Your unique Support Code
      If you ever call Technical Support, we can use that Support Code to access information sent to our servers by Speed Meter Pro to diagnose and troubleshoot any problems more quickly and efficiently.

      Without your Support Code, it is not possible to access any personal information in our database about your network.
    • Time and date of last upload
      The date and time that Speed Meter Pro last sent your network data to Pure Networks.
    • Not Yet Uploaded
      This displays if you've recently installed Speed Meter Pro and it has not sent the first data upload.
    • Communication Error
      This displays if your computer was unable to access the Internet, or if you had some firewall or other security software blocking communication between Speed Meter Pro and our servers. This error applies to the most recent upload attempt only. So if network data had been sent before, you will still have a Support Code as well as the last successful upload date and time.
    You can opt-out or back in to this feature at any time. To do this, in Speed Meter Pro, click the Tools menu, and then click Options. In the Options dialog box, click the General tab and specify whether to use your network information to assist Technical Support.
