Network Magic™ 2.0 Delivers Hassle-Free Home Networking
New software puts beginning and advanced home networkers in control with easy setup, remote network access via Net2Go™ and enhanced Windows® networking with SmartShare™ technology
SEATTLE and NEW YORK - October 14, 2005 - Pure Networks™, Inc., the leading provider of home networking software and services, with software already in more than 2 million homes nationwide, today released Network MagicTM, the first all-in-one home networking software solution. Network Magic is software for consumers that resides on each computer within a home network, connecting and unifying the many different PCs, routers, gateways, and networked devices found in today's home into a seamless home network that is easy for consumers to use, manage and enjoy.
"Home networking should be fun, not frustrating. Home networkers want to share internet connections, printers, files and photos, and access their content no matter where they are - it's that simple," said Tim Dowling, President and CEO of Pure Networks. "Network Magic 2.0 reduces the pain of networking, particularly for the technology decision-maker in the home, and starts to open a new world of possibilities in personal networking - the idea that we can access and share our files and media anywhere, anytime."
Network Magic 2.0 eliminates the hassles of setting up, managing and protecting home networks and gives consumers ultimate control of their home network. Once installed on the computers within the home, Network Magic 2.0 automatically connects PCs, printers, routers, gateways and networked devices - anything with an IP address - and creates a user-friendly visual map of the network. From the Network Map, home users can manage all of their PCs and devices such as network storage devices and media adaptors, pinpoint network problems and detect unwanted wireless intruders - all on one screen. Network Magic also continuously monitors and displays the connectivity of all devices on each machine and gives users a detailed log of all network activity so network "administrators" know everything that happens on their network - while they were home and away.
Additional new features in Network Magic 2.0 include:
- Easy network setup with Universal Router Support and Instant Device Discovery: Network Magic 2.0 works with all major routers and recognizes and enables management of hundreds of devices, including VoIP adaptors, network storage devices and scanners making network setup fast and easy for consumers while eliminating the need to worry about hardware compatibility issues.
- Pure Networks' new Net2Go service gives users remote access to the shared files on all PCs in their home from any web browser, no matter where they are. Users get an encrypted password and can also upload to their home networks. In addition, users can remotely view the online status of all the PCs in their home network. With its dynamic DNS service, Net2Go also acts as a personal home web server. It provides a fast and easy way to share photos and files with friends and family via a personal web site without having to upload to a 3rd party website or constantly e-mailing them. Users can view the photos individually as thumbnails or as a slideshow and can download source files for easy printing.
- SmartShare technology is the underlying sharing technology within Network Magic that automatically shares printers across the network - most often without requiring printer drivers. It also enables one-click file sharing from any computer on the network, eliminating time spent wading through complex Windows configurations and allows easy file sharing between PCs running different versions of Windows - often a challenge for consumers.
- Network Magic's PC Shield™ automatically protects the user's PC when connected to other networks, including Wi-Fi hotspots. PC Shield automatically locks down shared folders and makes them available again when the user returns to their home or other authorized network. PC Shield also automatically turns on the Windows Firewall when using the other networks providing additional protection from hackers.
- Dynamic File Directory Service: Using SmartShare, Network Magic 2.0 automatically creates a dynamic easy-to-use central directory of all shared files on the network and instantly updates it and notifies other users on the home network when new folders are added. Using the Dynamic File Directory, users can access shared files on any PC in the home without needing to know the location or remember complicated UNC paths.
- Power Toys: Software developers and advanced users will be able to download a number of preview plug-ins deemed "Power Toys" for Network Magic built on the Network Magic platform. Power Toys are lightly-tested applications designed to solicit real-world feedback on potential new functionality. The first experimental "toys", Intruder Blaster and Net2Go Customizations, work with a limited set of routers and can be downloaded at www.networkmagic.com/powertoys. Additional Power Toys will be released in the coming months.
Network Magic 2.0 is available at www.networkmagic.com for $49.99 (U.S.), which includes one year of the Net2Go service and product updates, and will also be available in retail stores this fall for an MSRP of $49.99. Consumers can also download a 14-day free trial from the website. Pure Networks offers a 30-day money back guarantee. Network Magic 2.0 is licensed for the entire home network (up to 5 PCs), so there is no need to buy a separate copy for each PC.
